Every 4.4 seconds, a child or young person tragically passes away globally, according to the World Health Organization. However, the situation in refugee camps presents a stark contrast, where neonatal mortality alone accounts for HALF of all child deaths under the age of five.

The high neonatal mortality rate is largely due to poor nutrition among pregnant women and the harsh conditions of displacement, war, and poverty that affect most people in the region.

These challenges result in a high rate of premature births, with infants facing severe health complications such as respiratory distress syndrome, heart problems, hypothermia, and weakened immune systems.

The region’s healthcare infrastructure has been devastated, leaving hospitals and clinics severely understaffed and under-resourced. Medical supplies and essential equipment are in critically short supply, worsening an already critical situation.
